Falco peregrinus Tunstall, 1771 - Peregrine Falcon

Subspecies in India

(1) Falco peregrinus peregrinator Sundevall, 1837 – Shaheen Falcon or Black Shaheen
(2) Falco peregrinus calidus Latham, 1790 – Tundra Peregrine Falcon
(3) Falco peregrinus babylonicus Sclater, 1861 – Red-naped Shaheen. This is sometimes treated as a subspecies of Falco pelegrinoides Temminck, 1829 – Barbary Falcon. However, both pelegrinoides and babylonicus are genetically similar to other subspecies of peregrinus, therefore treated as such (Gill, Donsker & Rasmussen 2021).
