Anorrhinus austeni - Austen's Brown Hornbill



This species is uncommon. It inhabits evergreen forests(up to 1,800m) in northeast India, Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia, and Thailand. It is ominvorous and forages on fruits, seeds, insects, molluscs, and small vertebrates. In India, the breeding season occurs during April-July (BirdLife International 2018).

According to the IUCN Red List assessment, the population of this species is declining and its current population size is unknown. The threat to its persistence comes from habitat disturbance due to agricultural practices and logging. Another threat to it is hunting (BirdLife International 2018).
