This endemic Indian species is extremely rare. It inhabits grasslands in the desert and semi-arid areas of India (mainly Rajasthan and Maharashtra) and Pakistan. It congregates in less disturbed grasslands for breeding during mid-summer and monsoon (BirdLife International 2018).
