This non-migrant species is rare. It inhabits forests and grasslands of Northeast India (mainly Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland), Myanmar, Cambodia, and other southeast Asian countries, from the sea level up to 2,100m (BirdLife International 2018). 

Conservation Status:

This species is listed as Endangered in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species (https://www.iucnredlist.org/).


According to the IUCN Red List Assessment, the population of this species is declining, with the current population size estimated at 10,000-19,999 individuals. The threat to its persistence comes from habitat disturbance due to agriculture and other human encroachments. Adult survival is also low possibly due to excessive hunting (BirdLife International 2018).
