The Birds of India website is produced as an informal, non-profit collaboration between a few institutions, groups and individuals. The website runs mainly on voluntary efforts and generous image contributions from largely amateur bird-watchers. The scientific backbone is provided by more serious amateurs and working scientists who also work on this website on a voluntary basis. See profiles of the Birds of India website team members, although the list of regular contributors is much longer, running into dozens of individuals (look at the latest images and any random species pages to know who these people are). In addition, the following institutions/groups support this website in various ways:

Indian Foundation for Butterflies
National Centre for Biological Sciences
Titli Trust

Funding, which is meagre compared to other large online databases and biodiversity portals of this nature, is provided largely by individual contributors. At the moment, all the funding goes exclusively towards web hosting fees. Contact us if you are interested in supporting this citizen science website in any manner.
