This species is uncommon. It inhabits inland wetlands and marshes in the coastal regions, from the sea level up to 300m. It is migratory, breeding in U.S.A (Alaska), Greenland, and Russia, and wintering on the coastal sides of North and South America, Morocco, India, and Australia. During the breeding season, it mainly forages on insects, worms, and crustaceans, while wintering, it feeds on marine invertebrates (BirdLife International 2017).
Conservation Status:
According to the IUCN Red List Assessment, the population of this species is declining and its current population size is unknown. The threats to its persistence come from habitat disturbance due to commercial developments and other human encroachments, scarcity of food, and hunting.
