Marmaronetta angustirostris - Marbled Teal

This species is rare. It inhabits the inland wetlands with abundant vegetation on the shorelines. It is partially migratory (seeking suitable habitat during different climatic conditions), breeding in Spain, Turkey, Algeria, Libya, China and India, wintering in Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and other south Asian countries. This species has undergone extirpation from Macedonia and Cyprus (BirdLife International 2017).

Conservation Status:

This species is listed as Vulnerable in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species (https://www.iucnredlist.org/).

According to the IUCN Red List Assessment, the population of this species is declining and the current population size is unknown. The threat to its persistence comes from habitat degradation due to large-scale agriculture and other human encroachments. Individual mortality is high due to excessive hunting during the breeding season and also lacking suitable habitats during harsh climatic conditions (BirdLife International 2017).
