This rare species can be found on coastal and lowland regions (above 300m of height) in India (mainly in Andaman and Nicobar Islands), Myanmar (mainly in Coco Islands), Indonesia, Thailand, and Brunei. It is social and congregates for nesting, and it breeds during December-February. It mostly forages on fruits(BirdLife International 2018).

According to the IUCN Red List Assessment, the population of this species is declining, and its current population size is unknown. The major threat to this species is hunting and trapping. Habitat disturbance is another threat, due to logging and forest fires (BirdLife International 2018).
